HOW TO CHECK THE STATUS OF YOUR I.D CARD WITH SMS

The National Identity Management Commission, NIMC, has rolled out sms platform to help Nigerians check the status of their identity card without hassles or going to enrollment centers to do so. This means that anyone can comfortably sit in his house or anywhere and check if the card is ready or not.

With the introduction of sms platform, NIMC wants to make it easier to enable members of the public  ascertain and verify the authenticity of their National Identification Number (NIN) and access other services.

The services provided by the SMS platform include the following:

• Personal NIN Lookup, which allows an individual check his/her NIN.
• The Card Status Check, which check the print and delivery status of an individual’s National e-ID Card.
• The Change Telephone Number, which allows an individual change the phone number he/she used during enrollment to a new one where the old phone number is no longer available.
• Help, which allows an individual seek help on available services.

 So, in this post, I'm going to walk you through the process of doing this including providing you with the various keywords to check the status and the supported sms providers.

I.D CARD KEYWORD AND THE SMS PROVIDER:

1. TO CHECK YOUR NIN: 

• MTN USERS: Text "mynin" to +234903000872
• GLO USERS: Text "mynin" to+2347058200871
• AIRTEL USERS: Text "mynin" to+2347084200871
•  9Mobile (Etisalat) USERS: Text "mynin" to +2349080000871

 2. TO CHANGE THE NUMBER USED IN REGISTERING:

• MTN USERS: Text “Changeme/FirstName/Surname/OldPhoneNo/Last4digitNIN” to +234903000872
• GLO USERS: Text “Changeme/FirstName/Surname/OldPhoneNo/Last4digitNIN” to +2347058200871

2	Card status page	This will check if the E.ID card is ready for collection of your National Health	Send “cardstatus” as to any of the following numbers; ·         +234903000872 ·         +2347058200871 ·         +2347084200871 ·         +2349080000871	Return the status or the readiness of the card. Some of the expected reply includes the following; ·         Card ready but not dispatched ·         Card collected ·         Card ready with details for collection
3	To change mobile phone number	This is used to change the mobile phone number used during registration in the event the old number is no longer in use.	Send “changeme/FirstName /Surname/OldPhoneNo/last4digitofNIN” as to any of the following numbers; ·         +234903000872 ·         +2347058200871 ·         +2347084200871 ·         +2349080000871	The service replies with the user’s full name and acknowledgement of the change from the old phone number to the new phone number.
4	Help	For help and enquiry into the NIN services or sms	Send Send “help” as sms to any of the following numbers; ·         +234903000872 ·         +2347058200871 ·         +2347084200871 ·         +2349080000871	The service will return a message on all the services that is available in NIMc sms platform.
